Mount Gambier Weekend.
It was a fresh cool morning as 3 of us arrived at Strathalbyn Railway Station to await the arrival of the other folk who were also riding with us to the Mount for what was going be a great ride and a great weekend.
As the clock slowly reached 9.30 we did a final tally to have 19 bikes of which 17 were heading to the Mount and 2 who had come along to farewell us off.
We headed off under cloudy skies with Hobbit in the lead towards Meningie not forgetting the ferry where we actually had to wait behind a cop who was waiting to cross. As soon as we pulled up Rob was off his bike and up to the window chatting with him. No one had any idea what was said but it was obvious the cop wasn’t too worried about us as we passed him parked on the side of the road a bit further up after leaving the ferry.
We finally arrived at Meningie at 11.00am where we stopped for fuel and a quick smoko, then headed off to Kingston S.E where we met up with 3 members from the Limestone Coast Branch. We headed off from Kingston with Jane from Limestone taking the lead as we headed on towards Mount Gambier. It was a great run except for the short stop out of the Mount as one of our riders decided he didn’t like the folks behind him so he threw his baggage of his bike to upset them. After a few ocker straps they finally made sure his baggage was going to stay on his bike, surprisingly not many were game enough to sit behind him after that. Once again we took off to head towards the Mount, we were pretty close now but then one of our members was getting very low in fuel and was desperately looking for a fuel stop. He (Not mentioning any names) pulled around the corner to notice that everyone was stationary on the side of the road waiting so he could fill up his bike at the garage, the attendant in the garage even commented on the fact that everyone had stopped just so he could fill up his bike. THANKS GUYS
We finally arrived at the caravan park, which was about 5 min away from the garage Where we all booked in and then after settling in to our various rooms Go Down, Crazee and Luke (Now known as Healthy Luke) with a generous park owner who loaned us his ute, organised a pub run to pick up supplies for later on that night after dinner. We were still trying to work out why we needed an escort while we had all the grog in the back you would think no one trusted us but we had a few of the guys follow us there and back with the grog.
At 6.30 the bus rocked up to take us to The Eastern for dinner where the meals were great......the service was lousy but everyone finally got fed and we finally ended up heading back to the camp at 10.00 p.m where we continued to party. Hobbit, Guv and Simmo were in the rooms telling jokes while a few of us were outside doing what we do best, Not forgetting Luke who takes the party till u drop award, Good onya mate.
In the morning a few of the healthier ones went for a quick ride with the Limestone mob around the Mount to arrive back for what could be described as a breakfast for kings which was supplied by the caravan park .It was a great weekend with good service by the owners Ray and Robyn who are also Ulyssians as well as the Limestone Coast branch who made sure we had a great weekend a big thank You to everyone.
