Worlds Greatest Shave

On the 4th May 12.30p.m at the McDonalds car park, Go Down, Crazee, Strech, Hobbit, Gnome and Muddy met for an afternoon of fun and suprises. We headed down Dyson road towards River road on our way to Old Noarlunga Primary School for the Worlds Greatest Shave . It was a quick ride but as we turned into the Noarlunga Primary School We were met with a lot of cheering and jubilation from unsuspecting kids ranging from reception to yr 7 who were probably wondering who this unlikely mob of motorbike riders were invading the school.

After parking 4 bikes, Gnome’s sidecar outfit and Muddy’s trike the principal Phil Johansen who is also a Ulysses member of the Adelaide branch came over and welcomed us and then after we showed the kids our bikes and chatted with them Phil took us into the staff room for a coffee which would have shocked a few of them No Alcohol and No smoking but that was okay as some of us adjourned to the Nourlunga pub after the afternoons entertainment as it was only next door to the school.

After the drink and something to eat we made our way to the basketball court where all the kids were gathered for the event. Phil introduced Hobbit who ended up being the spokesman as he is so good at it, had the honours of introducing the rest of us as well as giving some input on the Club not failing to mention that they only have about 30 to 35 years to wait before they could join up with the rest of us.

The afternoon started off with a crazy hair competition for senior classes and junior classes. We had a hard time deciding but we finally ended up with a male & female winner in both catergories not forgetting the kids had the final vote in the finals of the males junior class. : Note we were prepared to be bribed with lollies but the kids thought better and decided to keep them for themselves. We missed out again as usual.

Ok that was pre entertainment now was the serious stuff the coloring and shaving Crazee, Hobbit, Gnome and Muddy who doesn't have much to color on top but plenty around the chin sat in the chairs and were left to the cheering of the kids shouting out what colours hair should be sprayed. A special mention to the Mums who were willing to spray the hair of the guys who had rocked up. The kids absolutely loved it when it was Crazees turn, don`t know why but they thought it was great seeing father Christmas getting his white curls colored. Next in the hot seat was the shaving where Myself ,Strech and one of the school volunteers Tex got ready to lose our locks. As the clippers were humming away they were being drowned out by the chanting of the kids “Shave your beard, Shave your beard” “to the disappointment of the kids this didn’t happen and very much to the relief of Strech and Go Down.

In concluding the day Phil offered a big thank you to all the Ulysses club members for coming and giving the kids a great time as well as some of the Mothers, Julie(Go Downs better half), Kellie, Denice & Robyn who organized and ran the day.

At the end of the fun day the total amount raised was $280 with still more money to come.
